Portsmouth, Virginia
(Dec. 18, 2025, PORTSMOUTH, VA) - Yesterday, Rising Tide Youth Movement held its 2025 Christmas Food Giveaway at Park View Elementary School in Portsmouth, Virginia, distributing 100 free food bags to local families through a drive-through community distribution effort.
Each food bag was designed to help reduce immediate food stress for households and support family stability during the holiday season. Based on typical portions for a family of four, each bag can support approximately 4 to 6 evenings of dinner meals, depending on serving size and what families already have at home.
Families received:
5 lb bag of chicken
10 lb bag of potatoes
Two cans of corn
Two cans of green beans
1 lb bag of rice
12 oz package of dinner rolls
Two boxes of macaroni and cheese
In total, Rising Tide Youth Movement distributed approximately 2134 pounds of food, including 500 pounds of chicken, 1000 pounds of potatoes, 100 pounds of rice, 200 cans of corn, 200 cans of green beans, 1200 dinner rolls, and 200 boxes of macaroni and cheese.
“This giveaway was about meeting families with practical support and dignity,” said Brian Moore, president and executive director of Rising Tide Youth Movement. “When families are supported, students are better positioned to show up ready to learn, and communities are stronger because basic needs are being addressed.”
Rising Tide Youth Movement thanks volunteers and community supporters who helped make the giveaway possible and reaffirmed its commitment to serving Portsmouth youth and families through whole family support, educational enrichment, and pathways to opportunity.
