Rising Tide Youth Movement was proud to host Rise and Thrive Peace Week 2026 on April 9 and 10, 2026, giving nine teens a meaningful opportunity to learn, grow, and connect through a two-day experience focused on enrichment, exposure, career readiness, and positive relationship building.
The students who participated came from Cradock Middle School, W.E. Waters Middle School, I.C. Norcom High School, Churchland Middle School, Churchland High School, and Manor High School. Bringing together students from multiple schools created a powerful opportunity for them to engage with one another, build connections, and represent their schools and community with pride.
On the first day, the group visited Hampton University, where Mr. Boyd guided them through the African American Museum. Students were attentive, engaged, and thoughtful as they learned about artwork and history presented throughout the museum. From there, the group traveled to Old Dominion University, where Emily led a campus tour that included the Science, Engineering, and Library buildings. Students also learned about the tradition surrounding the university emblem and enjoyed lunch at Monarch Dining, where they experienced campus life firsthand.
The day continued with an enrichment stop at Topgolf, where students had the chance to relax, laugh, and enjoy time together in a positive environment. It was a fun and memorable way to continue building community among the group.
On the second day, students participated in a strong workforce readiness experience at Portsmouth@Work, where Ms. Moses led an engaging session on resume and interview preparation. Her presentation gave the teens a valuable introduction to practical skills they can carry with them into future jobs and career opportunities.
That same morning, Mr. Moore and Mr. Green spoke with the students about the purpose of Peace Week and the importance of understanding the escalation and mitigation of violence. These conversations helped connect the experience to a larger message about peace, choices, leadership, and the role young people can play in shaping a better future for themselves and their community.
The experience ended with dinner and games at Dave and Buster’s in Virginia Beach, where students had the opportunity to celebrate, enjoy one another’s company, and reflect on a positive two days together.
What stood out most was not just where the students went, but how they carried themselves throughout the experience. They treated each other well, interacted respectfully, and represented themselves with maturity and pride. Watching them grow together over the course of Peace Week was a powerful reminder of what can happen when young people are given access to supportive, structured, and inspiring opportunities.
Rise and Thrive Peace Week 2026 reflects Rising Tide Youth Movement’s continued commitment to helping youth rise through exposure, thrive through opportunity, and grow into leaders who can make a lasting difference in their community.
